At SpaceRobotics.EU, we continue to expand our range of scale models, replicas and kits related to space exploration, combining design, engineering and manufacturing. One of the latest additions developed for SpaceShop.Store is our 1:100 scale SpaceX Falcon 9, a model approximately 70 centimetres tall, designed not only for display but also to be disassembled, allowing users to explore the different parts of the launch vehicle.
The project is based on one of the launch vehicles that has had the greatest impact on modern access to space. Falcon 9 is a two-stage rocket designed and manufactured by SpaceX to transport people and payloads into Earth orbit and beyond. The real vehicle stands approximately 70 metres tall and 3.7 metres in diameter, with its first stage powered by nine Merlin engines. One of its most distinctive features is its reusability: Falcon 9 was the first orbital-class rocket designed to enable the repeated flight of its first stage.
Much More Than a Static Scale Model
For this model, we wanted to retain one of the features we consider most valuable in our educational scale models: the ability to understand a spacecraft or launch vehicle by exploring how it is built.
For this reason, the Falcon 9 incorporates hidden internal magnets that allow different components to be separated and easily reassembled. The model currently available includes configurations featuring Crew Dragon, its service module, the main payload, second stage and base, turning the scale model into a much more dynamic representation than a conventional fixed model.
This approach allows it to be used both as a display piece and as an educational tool for explaining the architecture of a launch vehicle. The real Falcon 9 consists of a reusable first stage, a second stage powered by a Merlin Vacuum engine, and an interstage connecting both stages and enabling their separation during flight. The first stage also features four grid fins used during its return to Earth and four landing legs.
70 Metres Transformed into 70 Centimetres
The 1:100 scale transforms the approximately 70-metre-tall real Falcon 9 into a model measuring around 70 centimetres, making it large enough to clearly appreciate its architecture while remaining practical for display on a desk, in a showcase, classroom, exhibition or office.
The kit also includes two supports that allow the Falcon 9 to be displayed both vertically and horizontally, providing different presentation options. The design can be customised with different elements, labels, bases or logos, and at SpaceRobotics.EU we can also develop special and bespoke versions upon request.
From 3D Design to a Physical Model
This Falcon 9 is part of a line of work in which SpaceRobotics.EU combines 3D design and modelling, digital manufacturing, 3D printing, assembly and professional finishing techniques to transform real spacecraft and launch vehicles into physical models.
Our goal is not simply to reproduce their external appearance. Whenever the project allows, we design our models to also help people understand the engineering, proportions and different components involved in a space mission.
This approach allows us to develop everything from small-scale models and kits to professional models for museums, science centres, institutions, space agencies, companies and exhibitions, including bespoke projects, large-format models, full-size 1:1 replicas and even robotic or interactive versions. The new model is designed for those who want to own a detailed Falcon 9 replica, but also for educational centres, science communicators, companies, exhibitions and space exploration enthusiasts looking for something more than a small decorative piece.
The magnetic system turns the model into a useful tool for visually explaining some of the launch vehicle’s main components and better understanding what happens during a mission: launch, stage separation, second-stage operation and different payload configurations.
